Art in the Courtroom

Courtrooms where child dependency cases are heard can feel intimidating, especially for children and families experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Bringing art into these spaces helps create a sense of comfort, dignity, and hope that softens the formality of the courtroom, making it feel less overwhelming and more welcoming. Thoughtfully chosen artwork can reduce stress, support healing, and remind all who enter that the courtroom is not only a place of law, but also a place where families and children matter.

Creating Healing Spaces Through Art Initiative

The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) is fortunate to have a group of talented employees who, in addition to their daily work, volunteer their own time and creativity to make art for courtrooms where child dependency cases are heard. This informal artist collective uses their skills to design and create pieces that bring warmth, comfort, and a sense of community into court spaces. Their artwork helps transform intimidating environments into places that feel more welcoming and supportive for children, families, and caregivers.
